FUTURE HISTORIES-ARSENY ZHILYAEV & MARK DION
From 09 May 2015 by ” Tre Oci House”, a beautiful testimoniance of Venetian architecture from early ' 900 in the island of Giudecca, will host “ Future Histories-ArsenyZhilyaev & Mark Dion” , curated by Magnus Af Petersens and proudly presented by V-A-CFoundation.
The exhibition confirms the site space as a place dedicated to the languages of contemporary art, and this time presents a dialogue between Mark Dion, American conceptual artist and Eric Zhilyaev, a young Russian artist.
The two develop a veritable wunderkammer, (German16th-century term that describes environments where collectors used to preserve extraordinary objects) in an attempt to create an imaginary Museum in the future by playing on his ambivalent nature: on a side a wonderful place where it's nice to discover and learn and on the other a guardian of the official story.
Mark Dion presents The “ Wonder Workshops” a working laboratory formed by a group of artists and craftsmen at work which will produce a series of sculptures of "exotic" animals, from 17th-century engravings, with the goal of being exposed in a Museum of the future.
On the other hand Arseny Zhilyaev offers Cradle of Humanity (The cradle of humankind) where imagines a distant and disturbing future in which a galactic civilization, called "the cradle of humanity", build on the Earth, abandoned by humanity, a sort of museum dedicated to the origins of life and civilization. This museum, in addition to commemorating and inform about the history of our planet, offers very special services, how to resurrect the visitor's ancestors through DNA research. Zhilyaev then questions himself about the meaning of the Museum as an institution and recognizes an active role in the formation of ideologies that modify the contemporary economic and political condition.
