Francesco Guardi in Palazzo Correr

Add to bookmark Add to favourities

Francesco Guardi, after his death  was not exalted for his real artistic value, only thanks to a famous exhibition in Palazzo Grassi, in 1965, was revalued and appreciated by audiences and critics.
Here is presented a comprehensive overview of the various stages of his complex artistic activity, from early works to the famous interior scenes, and the suggestive  views of Venice.

The show opens with two paintings that depict the artist, one of Giuseppe Bertini, while Guardi sells his small paintings in piazza San Marco, the other by Pietro Longhi, indicating poor news and documentation about a painter who in life had no certain fame that now he is reserved.

To set up this extraordinary exhibition event was made a careful selection of works from the most prestigious institutions in the world such as the Brera art gallery, the National Gallery in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York: 16 are those who are for the first time in Italy.
