The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari is the largest church in Venice located in the San Paolo district in the homonymous Campo dei Frari. The Basilica was built in 1300 and it is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary.

The church has a latin cross plan, with three naves and arches restings on six columns on each side and it has a Venetian Gotchic style.

On the inside of the church, you can admire many masterpieces including two paintings by Tiziano Vecellio, who was an italian painter exponent of the Venetian school, and funeral monuments of different people linked to Venice, such as Claudio Monteverdi, Antonio Canova and Vecellio himself.

You can also find the wooden choir dating back to 1468 in the center of the Basilica, the only one that has perfectly preserved it.

Visiting Hours:

  • From Monday to Saturday: from 09.00 a.m. to 06.00 p.m.
  • Sunday: from 01.00 p.m. to 06.00 p.m.

Prices:

To enter the Basilica you need an entrance ticket that costs € 3,00. There is also an audio guide with the addition of € 2,00 with which you can discover the history of paintings and monuments.
