Veleziana 2012

Also this year, the historic venetian club “La Compagnia della Vela” will organize La Veleziana. On its 5th editon, this prestigious and particular boat race is going to have major changes from this year on.

On Sunday 21st October 2012 at 11 am, more than 150 boats will sail off from the open sea racing towards the San Marco’s Basin, trying to win the main prizes Trofeo Veleziana and Trofeo Challenge.

The sport manager Rigon Francesco announced that, starting from this edition, the Organizing Committee has decided to prepare a racing path set by specific GPS points, so that from the 2012 edition on, the track will be always the same one in order to time the best personal performances year by year.

 
He also said that the arrival time by the Basin will be set within 16:00, and thanks to an agreement the organization has with the Capitaneria di Porto and with the ACTV (the public transportation company), the public service around the lagoon will be guaranteed but a little limited though, in order to highlight this important event.

The Sport Manager announced that, starting from October 15th 2012 till the end of the event, La Compagnia della Vela will host all the boats arriving form outside Venice, in order to control better the cruises’ traffic arriving from the other Mediterranean harbours.

On Saturday 20th October, in the island of San Giorgio, the teams will be presented and there will be a big party in some of the best rooms of the island's museum to inaugurate the race.
