The Vogalonga is a non-competitive race that was created only in 1974 thanks to the initiative of a group of Venetians who love fashion and traditions of Venice, with the aim to raise the awareness of residents and visitors about the growing problem of wave that threatens the city and its lagoon. That’ s not all,  The event, year after year, allowed a greater diffusion of knowledge and respect for Venice and its lagoon through the love of rowing. Over the years the race has seen a significant increase in the number of participants, especially foreigners to the point to reach for the 40th edition of Vogalonga the unbelievable number of  8000 subscribers.

The departure of "41th edition of "VOGALONGA 2015" is set at 09:00 am in May 24, 2015 in Saint Mark’s Basin, after the traditional raise of the rows a cannon shot start the race, the boats, divided by class will move towards   the island of St. Elena then the trough the ship Canal towards Burano-Mazzorbo and then along the the Scomenzera on the way to  Murano. They will come back passing through rio in Cannaregio and on the Grand Canal, ending in front of the Basilica of the Madonna della Salute, where the rowers will get their prize.
