SAN GIORGIO ISLAND’S LABYRINTH

Add to bookmark Add to favourities

The Borges Labyrinth has been located on the island of San Giorgio within the headquarters of the Giorgio Cini Foundation, since 1951. A one kilometer long path, made with 3200 boxwood plants arranged according to the design of Randoll Coate and inspired by the story of Jorge Luis Borges, The garden of the forking paths. During the tour you will be accompanied by an audio guide with the original soundtrack, composed by Antonio Fresa and performed with the Orchestra of the Teatro La Fenice

The labyrinth is also located near the famous Basilica of Andrea Palladio and the Benedictine complex (the oldest monastery in the lagoon according to legend). It is thanks to the collaboration between the Foundation and Fundación Internacional Jorge Luis Borges that the Labyrinth was born.

The well-known Argentine writer was in love with the natural labyrinth of streets and canals of Venice, its history and its complexity. Twenty-five years after his death, the city has thus remembered him with this tribute, which is the reconstruction of the first labyrinth garden built in 2003 in Mendoza by the architect Randoll Coate. The symbolic objects dear to the Argentine writer and present in many of his works can be found along the path just over a kilometer long.

A place where you can get lost and then find yourself again, a place that was also made accessible to the visually impaired - in memory of the blindness that struck the writer - guided towards the exit by a handrail that bears the Braille writing "El Jardín de senderos que se bifurcan ".

The San Giorgio Island Labyrinth was open to the public from 11 June 2021, every day and except Wednesday, at 11, 14, 17 and 18.15; from Friday to Sunday also at 10.15am, 12.15pm, 4.15pm and 7pm.
