Plessi a Venezia
Water is the key element in the personal and artistic path of Fabrizio Plessi. Since ever a metaphor of catharsis and rebirth, it is also the element that establishes Venice, a city where the artist, born in Reggio Emilia in 1940, studied and formed. Venice until November 22nd will host the event Plessi in Venice, a great project entirely dedicated to water, the natural element that, since 1968, lead many of his creations inspired by their beauty, practical and, at the same time, evanescence of this unique city.
The project consists of two separate exhibitions, both edited by Marco Tonelli. The first is PLESSI. LIQUIDLIFE - memory flux-1000 projects, at the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti at Ca' d'Oro. This is a video installation in which the screens evoke images of an "electronic flow" of water, a metaphor of flow of thoughts and creativity, that traces and tells more than fifty years of the artist's career.
The other event is visible at the Arsenal, Tesa 94: a single large installation entitled PLESSI. LIQUID LIGHT, consisting of fourteen overturned boats – the llaüt, traditional Balearic Islands boats for trawling – on a soft blue light and a sound background of waves of the sea, the Mediterranean.
Using the video as artistic tool, Plessi has an innovative path that made him famous throughout the world. He participated in 14 editions of the Venice Biennale, achieved over 500 exhibitions on display in places like the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Kunsthochschulefür Medien co-founder of Köln taught humanisation of technologies and Electronic Scene.
