The "Festa della sensa"

This year "La sensa" will be celebrated on 23 and 24 May 2020 creating a big party in the city and enhancing its relationship with the sea, recalling moments of history and Venetian traditions.

The Festa della sensa( in local dialect) or Festa dell'Ascensione was a feast of the Republic of Venice on the occasion of the day of the Ascension of Christ. After the collapse of the Serenissima, the tradition of the festival sensa was abandoned until 1965. We are back to celebrate it by proposing a historical re-enactment of the marriage with the Sea, with a water procession from San Marco to Lido of traditional rowing boats, captained by the "Serenissima"restored historic boat on which the mayor and other city authorities take place. The wedding with the sea takes place with a suggestive launch ceremony in the water of a symbolic ring and the subsequent religious function in the church of San Nicolò di Lido. During the Saturday festival will be presented the "Premio osella d'Oro della sensa", promoted by the Festa della sensa Committee, assigned to institutions, institutions and private citizens who, with their activity in the field of culture, of crafts and commerce, have given prestige to the city.On Sunday instead there will be te water prcession and many initiatives organized by Coordinamento delle Società Remiere di Voga alla Veneta .On Sunday instead there will be the water procession and many initiatives organized by the Coordination of rowing rowing rowing societies to the Veneta. There will also be the sensa market at the church of San Nicolò in Lido, the Venetian rowing competitions and many other events.
