Based on the novel with the same name by Prosper Mérimée, Carmen was played for the first time in 1875, causing a great shock to the parisian public because of the storyline- and character’s realism, but its celebrity is given by the technic particularity, with an union of pleasant and catchy soundings, that bring closer even the dark-coloured storyline of the tragedy.
The opera, proposed in a new set up co-produced by Fondazione Teatro La Fenice and Grand Teatre de Liceu di Barcellona, Fondazione Teatro Massimo di Palermo and Fondazione Teatro Regio di Torino, will give the opportunity to appreciate for the first time in Venice the work of the Spanish director Calixto Bieito, with the scenography of Alfons Flores and the costumes of Mercè Paloma.
