The Carnival of Venice 2013
Carnival events begin with a double-header of inauguration since last weekend in January, with the Venetian Feast on the water!
Saturday January 26th at 18.00, and Sunday January 27th at 12.00, at the Rio of Cannaregio opens the Carnival celebrations with a remarkable performance on the water, accompanied by food stalls and musical entertainment! On Sunday the Rowing Club Association organize a rowing parade along the Grand Canal to arrive in rio di Cannaregio! An unmissable event, colourful and lively, for fans of traditional boats, shows and surprises ... and Venetian food specialities typical of the Carnival, Galani and Frittole! ( quite tasty pasties)
As always starting from Saturday, January 26th , this year has been re confirmed the opening of the much beloved ice-skating ring in the very historical centre of Campo San Polo!.
Here are the traditional appointments in saint Mark’s square
Saturday February 2nd: Procession of the Marie and Marie celebration starting at 2.30 pm. The procession will depart from San Pietro di Castello, according to tradition, until it comes to Piazza San Marco, where the 12 selected beautiful will walk accompanied by the magnificent historical procession.
Sunday, February 3rd: The Volo dell'angelo (fly of the Angel), 12.00 hours. The angel role will be interpreted by the winner of the last edition of the Marie, the Angel of the Carnival, descend from the Tower of the Campanile di San Marco to the stage of the Grand Theatre at St. Mark 's. To cheer the flight there will be a parade with rich costumes, traditional Carnival figures and many other surprises!
Sunday, February 10: a spectacular fly, 12.00 hours. As in the previous edition, the flight of the Angel doubles, and it will be a brave new singer showbiz world, which will fly from the steeple to the stage of Gran Theatre of San Marco! Thrilling show that brings all the viewers eyes to the sky!
Tuesday, February 12th: prize ceremony of Maria 2013 Carnival, 16.00 hours. The appointment will be the much awaited coronation of the most beautiful Mary of Venetian Carnival 2013, the awards ceremony and Coronation will be held amongst colours and many entertainment!
At 17.00, will be held The fly of Leon. After the incredible success of the last edition, will be the turn of volo del Leon ( the fly of the lion), the winged Lion symbol of Venice, will come down from the Bell Tower of San Marco to fly over the audience in the square, accompanied by the notes of the hymn of St. Mark performed by the Orchextrana group! Fun is guaranteed!
At 23.30 from Rialto Bridge until St. Mark's basin, will be the turn of the regatta of silence, the silent procession of gondolas that sails along the Grand Canal, this event put the word end over the the 2013 Edition of the Carnival of Venice, with the unmistakeable elegance of one of the quintessential symbols of Venice, the Gondola.
These are all traditional appointments of Venetian Carnival! But much more lies ahead, with appointments in many parts of the city: there are many musical evenings, DJ set in the timetable of the aperitif, cultural programs and film festivals, special events in the musei civici veneziani (Venetian civic Museums) and after the success of the previous editions: the 4th Edition of the International Carnival of the Biennale kids!
