Carlo Saraceni. A venetian between Rome and Europe
It opens at the Accademia Art Gallery a large anthological exhibition dedicated to Carlo Saraceni (1579-1620), seventeenth-century Venetian painter of great repute. The artist, although he was very attached to its territory, has spent most of career in Rome, where he was known simply as "the Venetian". In the eternal city he received his most important purchasers, helping to make great the Venetian footprint outside the borders of the Serenissima.
In the land of the Popes he cames to Caravaggio's artistic vision but with a very defined, particularly in the use of chiaroscuro and the achievement of a remarkable realism in his paintings. The exhibition includes about 60 works in chronological order, starting from the early paintings on copper through the refined works commissioned by some of the most influential Roman families and ending with larger panels made for abroad ecclesiastical congregations.
