Venice and its door on the mainland: the "Sestiere di Santa Croce"
Discover Cannaregio District
The 53rd edition of the Venice Art Biennale will open on June 7th and end on November 22nd 2009 (the vernissage will be held on June 4th and 5th) The Director, Mr. Daniel Birnbaum declared...
... that “the title itself of the 53rd exposition, Making Worlds, is the expression of my
desire to emphasize the creative process. An Artwork is a vision of the World, and, if
taken seriously, it can be seen as a way to make worlds”.
The 2009 edition, whose head-quarters will be the Giardini (Sant’Elena) and the Arsenale (but it will also be extended to the whole city) presents more than 90 artists from all over the world with their new operas of all sort. By taking making worlds as a starting
point (D. Birnbaum) “we will also be able to point out the fundamental importance to the next generations creativity of some Key Artists. All artistic forms will be present:
videos and movies, sculptures, performance, paint and draw and also a parade. The
exhibition will make new rooms for the art, that will develop far over the markets and
institutions expectations. Other novelties by this edition are the exposition areas,
improved and enlarged (both the Arsenale and the Giardini). The historical seat of Saint
Mark, Palazzo Giustinian, has been completely renewed. Here it wil be placed the Vision
Machine: futurists on Biennale, it’s all about operas and ideas of futuristic artist. To be noticed also the quantity of collateral events that will go on during the
manifestation, 38 (!!), a real record!
