The Venice Biennale is, since the first edition dated 1895, one of the most important cultural institution to a worldwide level. The initiative started by a group of Venetians and the major Mr. Riccardo Selvatico. The name Biennale comes from the time between one edition to the other, 2 years (biennale means every two years). However the cinema show which is part of the biennale is held every year. A wide spectrum of art is here considered to the point that the Biennale is divided into many sectors, each one is an exhibition by itself, Biennale Cinema (yearly), Biennale Music and Biennale Dance. The foundation (2004) is promoting new tendencies of contemporary art to a multidisciplinary level (cinema, art, architecture, dance, theatre and music). The sites of the manifestation are property of the Venice city hall (the Castello Gardens, the Cinema Palace, the Casino Palace at the Lido), and the Marine Army and the incoming tax agency (the Arsenal, the Tese theatre and the Piccolo theatre in the Arsenal).
