Venice and its door on the mainland: the "Sestiere di Santa Croce"
Discover Cannaregio District
The Venice Marathon is one of the most famous marathon of the world, takes place every year in October, from the Brenta River to Saint Mark's square in Venice.
Start takes place in Stra, in front of the magnificent 18th century Villa Pisani, and goes along the Brenta's Riviera, a spectacular road surrounded by old mansions. It will end, after 42 km, in Riva dei Sette Martiri, after a passage through the Zattere, St.Mark's Square and Riva degli Schiavoni.
From its first edition, in 1986, the marathon has been a very important opportunity for many athlets. After the successfull start of the italians, both for male (do not forget Gelindo Bordin, Salvatore Bettiol and orlando pizzolato) and female (important was Emma Scaunich who won a couple of editions), the africans started to win an break all the records done before. Will this be the right edition to turn up?
The marathon is accessible to everybody, athlets and not, but the registration has a maximum amount of partecipants. Venicemarathon has brought in the Suunto Pacing Team, a group of athletes who assist the participants with finishing the marathon in a specified time.
