The 53rd International Festival of Contemporary Music titled The body of sound and directed by Luca Francesconi will run in Venice from 25th September to 3rd October 2009 at the Teatro Piccolo Arsenale and Teatro alle Tese.

73 composers from all over the world, 87 performances and 26 news. As usual, among the event there will be installations, conventions and workshops.

Two main areas of investigation will be part of the Festival program: on the one hand, futurist music, or musique concrète if you prefer, or even electronic music, until the most recent technological developments; on the other hand, ethnic and world music in the widest historical and geographical significance, that is music that is born when strictly connected to the body and to the earth.

On October 27th at the Teatro alle Tese the Hungarian composer György Kurtág will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
