Osteria Da Franz

Osteria Da Franz Today, after many years, Hostaria da Franz has become in Venice, and around the world, one of the most famous seafood restaurants signaled by the best guides and gastronomics periodicals.

 

In the beginning the establishment was a rope-making shop. Afterwords, during the austrian-hungarian empires occupation of Italy, a young soldier by the name of Franz Habeler homed-up by the owner's daughter.

Being a nature-buff and after many years as adopted venetian, Franz would take his rowboat out to all the small islands surrounding Venice to buy wine from the farmers.He would than re-sell it himself together with fresh mussels and crayfish that the neighborhood fishermen would bring everyday in the canal in front of his buisness, by now an "ex" rope shop.So, after almost two centuries of "ombre e cichetti"(wine and snacks) in 1984 the establishment was aquisted by the Gasparini family, headed by, after a lifetime of experience roaming Europe, Chef Gianfranco and his son, Maurizio.

Today, after many years, Hostaria da Franz has become in Venice, and around the world, one of the most famous seafood restaurants signaled by the best guides and gastronomics periodicals.

Gianfranco, knowed by all as "Franz", proposes the lagoon's fresh delicacies in the rigorous venetian tradition accompanied by creative alternatives, helped in research Michael Hanson american transplanted in Venice twenty years ago, to learn our world-envied cooking traditions.

His son Maurizio, with much experience by now, welcomes clients from around the world being able to speak five languages fluently.

He has created an interesting list with the best italians wines and describes the daily menu table to table.

This warm and elegant locale offers a disponibility of fourty seats and in summer time a splendid terrace along a tipical venetian canal.
