Carnival

Last appointment of the Carnival, Tuesday Feb. 2012 with The Silent Rowing Parade, a farewell to the Carnival, taken by a candle light rowing parade along the Grand Canal from Rialto Bridge to Saint Mark’s basin.

From Feb 4th to 21st 2012 a program rich with Shows: concerts, recital and representation all over the city, squares, streets, historical palaces and theatre indeed.

The Valentine’s feast is integral part of Venice Carnival that will be celebrated from Feb. 4th to 21st 2012!

The theme of 2011 Carnival is the 800, the class and the refined elegance that goes along with the ladies of that era.               

This celebration was born in 943, long before the beginning of Carnival Celebrations to whom it was successively linked.The feast is connected with an episode happened during the purification of Mary ritual,

The Flight of the Angel is an event usually held on Shrove Thursday of Carnival (grasso) this has its roots due to an event that happened in the mid 16th century. In those years, during various exihibitions, a Turkish acrobat did something that stupefied the Venetians.

During Carnival celebration, from 6 to 16 february, Campo Santo Stefano will host the 26th edition of Venetioan Masks and Costumes Market where you could find handmade products, realized with no machine’s help.

You don’ t have to spend a fortune to make a mask to join the Venice Carnival! Discover the fundamental secrets to make yourself a mask, you need only few commonly used objects and lot of fantasy!

In the past the mask was, and still is, the essence itself of the Carnival, by wearing masks and costumes it is possible to hide completely an identity with absolutely no reference to sex religion and age, social level or whatsoever.

Carnival is and will always be one of the best feast of Venice. This tradition has a long story that begins way back in the past. The word “Carnival” was used for the first time on a document  by doge Vitale Falier about public amusements.

During Carnival eveything is a feast, even the sweets!!! During this period bakeries serve “Frittelle” and all its variations,  and “Galani” or “Crostoli” traditionally typical venitian products. If you come in Venice in this period you have to taste it!!!
