Servolo: VelvetLagoonVelvet

Servolo: VelvetLagoonVelvet
In conjunction with the Venice Biennial of Art and the Venice Film Festival, Anna Paola Cibin’s personal exhibition of VelvetLagoonVelvet will take place in spaces provided by the Province of Venice on the island of San Servolo

Promoted by the Arte&Arte Association in collaboration with the Province of Venice, the inspiration for the exhibition started with the artist Anna Paola Cibin’s idea to reclaim a subject that is frequent in the history of art, but one which contemporary art today has forgotten.

In the VelvetLagoonVelvet exhibition, a procession of fish follows one after another: extinct or living, real or imagined, solitary or in schools, the artist imagines diving into and crossing the lagoon.

The pathway among these colorful, hand-printed velvets recreates the depths of the sea and is dotted with glassy elements, luminous organisms with silvery, iridescent highlights. Tactile and radiant, this installation considers the connection between the fish and the city of Venice.

In addition, fish has also been the primary source of sustenance for many centuries and for many people. Today it is considered one of the barometers by which environmental quality and the sustainability of human activities are measured.

With its characteristic shape, Venice then seems to be swimming in the lagoon.

It is not by chance that Tiziano Scarpa’s book “Venice is a Fish” was a useful source of inspiration for the artist.

The exhibition will be open to the public until to September 18.
