Venice and its door on the mainland: the "Sestiere di Santa Croce"
Discover Cannaregio District
More than one hundred and thirty works (oils, temperas, drawings in
pencil, sketches and preparatory studies, large canvases and small
paintings) of the Bosnian artist Safet Zec will be displayed at Correr
Museum until July 18th. Some of the works presented have never been on
public display before.
Zec art not only goes back to classical ancestors (Tintoretto, Palma the Younger, Caravaggio and Freud), but shows also the eager studies of a solitary researcher combined with a craze for experimentation. His works express the reflection on the tragedy of a people and the endless possibilities of painting that can participate in both their suffering, and provide poetical interpretations of an everyday life.
The exhibition is curated by Giandomenico Romanelli in collaboration with Pascal Bonafoux and is being carried out with the support of the Galerija SOL di Lubiana. Catalogue Skira, curated by Giandomenico Romanelli.
