Venice and its door on the mainland: the "Sestiere di Santa Croce"
Discover Cannaregio District
From December 19th 2009 to April 11th 2010 at Correr Museum you can discover the wonderful collection of nineteenth century drawings - most of which are on display for the very first time – of Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia. The collection is one of the biggest on the graphic scene of that century and includes works by Caffi, Pividor, Guardi, Moro, Bosa, Vervloet ecc.
The exhibition will display works whose subject is Venetian or that were conceived and completed in Venice, so revealing an image of the city during the years of Ruskin: both modern and ancient, distracted and suffering, secret and well-known,full of life and dynamic.
Foreshortening and panoramas of the city, representations of historical events, inexhaustibles reportages of Venice’s corners and architecture and potraits of Venetian society during particular moments of everyday life: at the market, in places of cult or in the famous Saint Mark’s Square’s cafés. A hundred of drawings obscured by the fame of the vast collections of drawings from the eighteenth century that now can receive the attention they deserved.
